10th International Congress of Thracology 21.06.2005

The 10th INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF THRACOLOGY organised by the 19th EPHORATE OF PREHISTORIC AND CLASSICAL ANTIQUITIES, the INSTITUTE OF GREEK AND ROMAN ANTIQUITY, and the NATIONAL HELLENIC RESEARCH FOUNDATION will take place in Komotini - Alexandroupoulis: October 18th-23rd, 2005.

Four Sessions are programmed as follows:

  • Oct. 19: I: Ethne and Poleis in Ancient Thrace
  • Oct. 20: II: Economy and Society in Ancient Thrace
  • Oct. 21: III: Religion and Art in Ancient Thrace
  • Oct. 22: IV: Thrace in the centre of rivalries between the hegemonic powers of the Ancient world

The official closure of the Congress will take place on the evening of Saturday October 22. An archaeological excursion will be organised in the morning of Saturday October 23.

Meeting with Prof. Dr. Iwanisszewski 28.03.2005

On March 21st 2005, Prof. Dr. Stanislav Iwanisszewski � President of the European Association of Archaeoastronomy � took part in a business conference conducted at the Institute of Thracology. The issues discussed included the problems of the rock-cut and megalithic sanctuaries located at the territory of Bulgaria, as well as the topics to be discussed at the international conference The rock-cut sacred places of the Thracians and other Palaeo-Balkan and Ancient Anatolian Peoples. The conference will be held between the 2nd and the 6th of November in the city of Stara Zagora.

Mr. St. Iwanisszewski is a professor at the National School of Anthropology and History � Mexico City, and at the State Archaeological Museum � Warsaw. The following people participated in the meeting: Prof. Dr. PhD Alexander Fol � General Secretary of the international Council for Indo-European and Thracian studies, Institute of Thracology � BAS; Dr. Alexej Stoev � Director of the National observatory �Yurij Gagarin�- Stara Zagora; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Valeria Fol � Institute of Thracology, The rock-cut sacred places of the Thracians and other Palaeo-Balkan and Ancient Anatolian Peoples project coordinator.
